Be an Artist!

It is important to be very flexible and strive to be an artist.  There are too many artist that want to focus on one subject or medium.  That view will always limit your success, opportunities and audience.   Striving to be an artist will give you the maximum opportunities to grow, produce, establish following, increase strength of name.  It is simple, as an artist you can create work in all of the mediums that you have been exposed to.  I strive to work as many mediums as possible.  These are skills that I put in my kit bag to be used when I need to produce work for a customer.  I love to paint.  I'm not a painter.  I work with clay on the wheel and hand build, I'm not a potter.  I make art with chocolate.  I'm an artist! I  can make multiple works of art is a variety of mediums.  I can produce high quality work within a short period of time.  I have and can generate work to meet the demands of  high volume sales with the United States or abroad.

Talk About Art With Early Childhood Class

It was a blessing to be able to talk with a large group of college students about art, opportunity, learning about one's self and the world around them.   It is very important to achieve excellence and believe that each and everyone of us was born for a purpose.  I always tell anyone I get the chance to talk with, that I have been told as a child that I have unlimited potential, opportunity and a bright future.  This is something that I have focused on even through today as an adult.  I have never lost sight of this fact no matter how I may have been treated by others, circumstances ect.   As a leader I know the rate of the pack is set by me.  I choose to soar.  I learned to to fly about the time I learned to first ride a bike.  I have been in the air ever since this time.  I explained what was being done in my print making class.  We went to the Sculpture?Design I classroom.  I showed my mobile hanging from the ceiling.  Then I took the class to the ceramics room.  Showed pieces of my work in the various stages of completion.  Clay, leather hard, Bisque fired and glazed work.  Additionally today I spent time hanging up a show at the Arts and Science building and called it a day at 4pm on this project.  My original intent was to go to the Museum today.  With two shows in two different galleries needing to go up soon, it made sense to start hanging the show today.  Today was a great day for me for about a million reasons! :)

Having Fun and Discovering My Voice

I'm enjoying the weather and spending a lot of time working on school and special projects.  I have a lot of ideas and I'm working them daily.  I'm working clay, printmaking, special drawing  and cloth projects.   As an artist I make several works to cover my on going solo exhibits, scholarship opportunities, competitions, displays at local businesses and sales.  I spend a lot of time encouraging and helping fellow artist in their weekly projects and future goals.  Every time I'm asked questions about their work, I focus on the following questions:  What are you trying to convey to your viewers?  What is the mood or reaction that you are trying to stir in your viewers?  What do you think you can do differently?  Do you have a vision and value your work?  What is it?  I have several people that ask for my opinion or comments.  To me it is a trust and honor to be asked to give feedback.  Anyone that asks me for help knows that the problem will be resolved.  Additionally they will get constant encouragement and gain growth and understanding about their craft.

Having Fun Working Prints

I have been spending time working with ink and creating prints.  Printmaking has been very interesting and a unique experience. Linoleum, metal and wood are the substances used to make the plates that produce prints.  Ink is put on the plate which is put on quality paper and put into a press.  Then a print is created. A simple process once all of the work has been accomplished creating a plate. Pablo Picasso and several other artist have made prints.
